Introduction to Curriculum Management
Elentra offers comprehensive curriculum management tools that are built upon the curriculum maps created by your organization's Elentra administrators (e.g., Medtech:Admin, Staff:Admin, etc.). These curriculum maps incorporate curriculum tags organized into tag sets, which illustrate the connections between various objectives at different levels. For instance, an organization may define institutional program-level objectives, course-level objectives, and session-level objectives, arranged in a hierarchical format within Elentra. Curriculum tags can be assigned to various Elentra content types, including courses, learning events, gradebook assessments, exam items, and more. This functionality links your organization's educational goals directly to the activities engaged in by learners. Additionally, curriculum tags and tag sets can be utilized for purposes such as loggable activities in the Elentra Logbook or as keywords. It is also possible to create tag sets that operate independently of the curriculum map within Elentra.
All faculty users have the capability to navigate their institution's curriculum map and see how these concepts are integrated within Elentra (i.e., tags associated with learning events, courses, gradebook assessments, etc. are accessible to faculty users). Faculty users in Elentra can utilize various tools and reports to investigate the curriculum, which can be found by selecting "Curriculum" in the Navigation menu.
Curriculum Tags
Curriculum Tag Sets are the different taxonomies an organization uses to tag and track content across the system. Examples of curriculum tag sets include school objectives, clinical presentations, diagnoses, etc. These tags can be:
- applied to courses, learning events, gradebook assessment items, exam questions, assessment & evaluation form items, portfolio artifacts, learning objects, instructors, and locations. How to apply tags will be discussed in each article about the above topics.
- used as filters when searching the curriculum and are used in multiple reports.
As a Faculty user, you have read-only access to tag sets. Tag sets and the relationships between tags (i.e., the curriculum map) are created and managed by the admin level users in Elentra. To access, click on "Curriculum" in the Navigation Menu then select "Curriculum Tags". For more information on Curriculum Tag Sets, see the Admin guide here.
Curriculum Tools
As a Faculty user, you have access to the following tools. For more details, see the linked articles:
- Curriculum Search: This uses Boolean search terms to look for content within learning events. It searches event titles, event descriptions, and curriculum tag names. Users can also use advanced options to search the title and description of files attached to learning events.
- Curriculum Explorer: The Curriculum Explorer allows you to filter by curriculum tag set, course, cohort, mapping relationship and academic year, in order to see where a specific curriculum tag has been applied to a course, learning event, or gradebook assessment.
- Curriculum Matrix: The Curriculum Matrix provides a quick visual and numerical inventory of where curriculum tags are assigned to courses. The Matrix reflects only those curriculum tags that have been assigned to a course through the Course Setup page, not all tags applied to events, gradebook assessments, etc.
Curriculum Reports
There are several curriculum reporting tools available in Elentra. These can be used to help provide feedback to the people or committees responsible for curriculum planning and review, to see a summary of linkages between curriculum tags, and to get an overview of a course's learning events. For more information on each of these reports, see the Admin guide here.
