Respondus Lockdown Browser Overview
Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Elentra, preventing your learners from accessing other resources and applications on their device while they are taking an exam. For more information, please see the Respondus LockDown Browser website.
Note: There is an additional charge for Respondus LockDown Browser. Your organization must purchase the Respondus license through Elentra in order to enable this feature within your Elentra instance. Contact your account manager for more information.
Once purchased, Elentra will enable Respondus LockDown Browser for use within your organization and advise you when it is ready for use.
Enable Respondus on an Exam Post
Once enabled in your Elentra instance, you can enable Respondus LockDown Browser when creating exam posts. To allow the Respondus LockDown Browser to be used on an exam post do the following:
Step 1: On step 2 (Settings) of the exam post creation wizard, a selector for Exam Security Options is available.
Select Exam security options are required to allow you to configure the exam post to optionally use a lock down browser, password, and honor code. When this option is selected another step (Step 6 Security) in the exam post creation wizard will be enabled and appear in the user interface. On step 2 you can will be able to configure the The rest of the security options will display on step 6 of the exam post creation wizard.
From the Security page, select "Respondus LockDown Browser" and click "Save Security Options" to save the exam post.
Note: The Respondus LockDown Browser will only launch when learners are taking the exam. There is no way to enforce usage of the LockDown Browser when a learner reviews exam feedback at this time.
Learner Respondus Setup
Learners should download the appropriate version of Respondus LockDown Browser for their operating system BEFORE the exam. This can make the exam taking experience smoother for everyone.

- macOS - Student and Lab use: Download
Once downloaded, open the file to run the installer. Once installed, click here to launch the test page, to ensure there are no issues with your installation.
Taking the Exam as a Learner
Access the exam from a Learning Event or from the Exams tab. On an exam with the Respondus security option enabled, you will see a set of instructions to use the Lockdown browser. Download and install the version of the browser for your platform if not already up-to-date.
Use the "Start New Attempt" button to start the exam. It will start Respondus LockDown Browser and the exam will start.
Note: You will be required to log into Elentra upon launching Respondus LockDown Browser. Have your username and password available, because you will not be able to access password keeping apps from within the LockDown Browser.
