MedBiquitous Educational Methods: 2026 Update

The AAMC MedBiquitous Instructional and Assessment Methods have been updated to the 2026 versions of the MedBiquitous Educational Methods. The management interface for each has a refreshed look and feel, including version filtering, so administrators can quickly locate and manage specific methods easily.

This update also introduces the Matrix Model, which let institutions tag attributes like learner type, assessor role and other details independently of the Assessment or Instructional Method itself. As a supplementary layer to the core methods, facets offer institutions a way to capture added nuance in how instructional and assessment methods are recorded.

The 2026 versions can be added to both Learning Event Types and Assessment Types (Assessment Methods only), giving programs a direct path to bring their existing configurations up to date with the current standard.

At the event level, Educational Methods and Matrix facets are inherited automatically, so Learning Events stay consistent with their configured type by default. Assessment Methods and Matrix Category facets remain editable on a per-event basis, allowing adjustments for exceptions or unique cases without impacting the Learning Event Type settings themselves.

Methods by Events - List Report
Generates a tabular list of learning events organized by course. This view includes specific mappings to MedBiquitous Instructional Methods (IM), Assessment Methods (AM), and the relevant values for each associated facet type. Beyond curriculum mapping, the report displays crucial event-level logistics, including the event instructor, event type, event start and finish times, and the total event duration.

The detailed event-level view helps institutions connect standardized instructional and assessment data with the practical context of each learning experience, making it easier to review how methods are being applied, identify inconsistencies, and investigate patterns across courses.

Methods by Events - Summary Report
Totals the number of events and aggregates the total time spent across different event types by course. These metrics are displayed with MedBiquitous Instructional Methods and Assessment Methods allowing members to easily review counts and event type duration.

The summarized view gives programs a higher-level picture of how frequently different educational approaches are used and how much curriculum time they represent, supporting comparisons, curriculum balancing, accreditation preparation, and program evaluation. 

Each new report provides the facets as filter options, helping users quickly locate learning event data. These 12 facet filters will also be added into the following reports:

• Event Audience

• Learning Event Type and Total Hours Taught

Clinical Schedule Tab

Bookings Tab
The new Bookings tab is now available within the Clinical Schedule section of Instructor Profiles, providing a consolidated view of a preceptor's scheduled learner assignments across all rotation schedules. Coordinators can quickly review bookings, including the schedule, rotation, block, dates, learner, site, and booking status, and use filters to narrow results by schedule, period, or status for faster planning and oversight.

Other Enhancements

Course Viewable Dates and Learning Events
Addressed an issue where course active period viewable dates were not being enforced for learners. Learning events in courses with restricted viewable dates will now be hidden from learners until the configured viewable period begins.

Faster EPA Requirements Loading on the CBE Dashboard
Addressed an issue that caused EPA requirements on the CBE dashboard to load slowly. The requirements tab now loads more quickly when opening EPA details from the learner dashboard. The CBE Dashboard EPA Requirements will now load within a few seconds after making adjustments to improve their performance.

Preceptor Availability
Preceptor Availability will provide a centralized way to manage and track the learner capacity each preceptor has agreed to supervise over a specific date range. As learners are assigned, bookings draw against that availability, allowing coordinators to see remaining capacity before making additional placements.
