Introduction

Elentra's Exams module empowers your institution to create comprehensive exam question banks, assemble exams using questions from these banks, and deliver them to students through exam posts, which are linked to specific learning events. As a Faculty user, your primary responsibilities within this module include proctoring exams for students and grading exam responses. The system automatically grades many question types, allowing Faculty users to focus primarily on grading short answer, essay, and fill-in-the-blank questions as assigned. You can find exam grading tasks in the Admin Exams Dashboard, rather than in the faculty Grading Tasks menu. Additionally, the module supports both horizontal and vertical grading methods for a more flexible grading experience.

All Faculty users have access to the Admin menu within the Manage Exams module. However, the ability to view, create, edit, or delete exam questions and folders is determined by the specific role of the Faculty user—whether they are an Admin, Director, Lecturer, or Faculty member—and the permissions associated with their folders.

Faculty users in the Lecturer and Faculty roles have read-only access to the exam question bank, no access to exams bank, and are permitted to grade exams as assigned.

Faculty:Directors possess enhanced capabilities, allowing them to create exam questions, exams, and exam posts. While they cannot create new exam or question folders, they can manage and oversee the folders to which they have been granted permission. Furthermore, Faculty:Directors can manage and generate reports on exam posts that are within their scope of access. For additional details on the functions available to Faculty Directors, please refer to the Admin User Guide articles.

Facilitating Exams

When facilitating an exam for learners, you may be required to provide the password to the exam, if the exam post has been configured to require one.  Your program administrator should equip you with the exam password for exam(s) you are proctoring.  Other exam security integrations are also available in Elentra and may apply to an exam you are facilitating.  Ask your program administrator for more details on exam security needs for exams you are facilitating. While students are taking an exam

Faculty:Admin and Faculty:Directors will have access to the exams bank.  During the exam they will be able to monitor learner exam progress.  See the following tutorial to learn how to monitor exam progress.

Grading Exams

Assigned exams for grading are accessed through a different path than other grading tasks. To find them, simply navigate to the Admin Menu and select Manage Exams. For step-by-step guidance on how to grade exams in Elentra, please refer to the tutorial provided below.

Caution: There is no auto-save feature when grading exams.  Be sure to click the "Save" button after grading a question; or regularly click on "Save All" at the top of the grading screen to save all grading progress.
